Kevin's Review of Pelican 35Qt Elite Marine Cooler

I wanted to use this product for over a year before writing a proper review. I read for months and then looked at other products in person and the Pelican was the only choice. It was between the Pelican and the Yeti. The Pelicans solid handles and latches set it apart from the Yeti's rubber latches that won't stand up to years of sunlight and regular use. So after researching prices locally & online, I found the best deal on opticsplanet.com & it was delivered to my front door! Opticsplanet.com is now on my list of sites to check before ordering online, plus they have 10%, 20% off deals plus free shipping regularly.
This is my experience over the past year:
I also purchased two Pelican baskets to keep fruit, meat, veggies, etc above the ice and water, they quickly pay for themselves in saved products and lift out to get to other items instead of digging around in the ice. It really keeps ice for 7 - 10 days in the summer heat if the cooler if full (read the instructions for proper use, I had no clue to keep a cooler full, air is the enemy). After several trips to the lake I left the remaining ice in the cooler and placed it in the garage to see how long the ice would last and it was 15 days during the summer (approx 85 degree & no direct sunlight). The thick insulation and freezer grade gasket allows this.
The Pelican is rock solid period! The hinges, latches, handles, non-slip feet, construction and steel lock hasp make this thing a tank. Keep in mind that being a tank this 65 qt weights a little under 50 lbs empty, so it will take two people to carry it full. Find the proper size for your needs. Our Pelican has spent most the last year cable locked in the bed of our truck that has a bed cover so it is ready for a trip to the lake, a hunting trip, a tail gate party or filled with ice for a house party. Our Pelican has been dropped, knocked over, used as seat, a step stool, danced on, filled with venison & fish, spent weeks in the sun at the lake just to name a few adventure. All spills have wiped off with no stains. All of our prior coolers have broken due to our families constant use. The pelican is standing strong after over a year of use! We have 65 Quart because we need the extra room. It is also perfect size for long road trips to keep large volumes meat cold. As soon as Opticsplanets runs a deal again we are purchasing a Pelican 20 Quart cooler when we don't need 65 qts of space.
