Curtis's Review of Phone Skope iPhone Cell Phone Case
I purchased this expecting a decent product to enable taking photos/videos with my iPhone 7 through my spotting scope and binoculars. I did purchase a separate adapter ring for each piece of equipment (Swarovski El binoculars and ATX spotting scope). Unfortunately there are several issues.
1. Horrible quality of the product itself. Very cheap flimsy molded plastic.
2. Alignment is sub par. The camera lens is not centered on my binocular or spotting scope and slightly different on each.
3. Fitment of phone case to eye piece adapter is terrible. Sits very loosely and has much play. The phone will actually end up rotating down or falling out when placed in horizontally. It does not maintain its connection to one another very well.
4. Fitment of the eye piece adapter to the optic itself is bad. On the binoculars it is relatively loose and on the spotting scope it is so tight you can hardly get it on... then once you do you don't stand a chance trying to rotate it without messing up the eye relief or twisting the eye piece out of the spotting scope all together.
5. Price to quality ratio. You would expect a relatively nice, reliable piece of equipment for the price tag. In my case over $100 between the three. Unfortunately the price tag should reflect something like $4.99 each. If I had paid a price like that I wouldn't have been surprised by the low quality but when you pay towards the upper end of the market for an item like this you would expect more.
Bottom line Phone Skope really needs to address the quality and build of these or they won't be in business long. They might as well be made in China.
I looked around online for other reviews on youtube and such. I couldn't seem to find a good review of this current generation. It appears they have had several generations and in time have made the product cheaper and cheaper. I was hoping made in the USA would = Quality. In this case is does not. After fiddling around with it for about 30-60 seconds it is usable but then it ends up falling down or coming apart and needs to be reattached which I do not think is the intended idea. Also from older reviews of previous generations is appears relatively quick and easy to attach and shoot photos or videos with. I can assure you it is anything but quick or easy with this low quality POS they are now selling. I will most definitely be calling the manufacturer to see what their input is. Depending on their response I will either return the three products and switch to another supplier or give them another chance with a replacement set up.
