Used to transport 4 long guns on a recent flight from the sw to the midwest. overall it worked ok - Plano Special Edition Double Rifle/Shotgun Case

Wasn't sure how this case would work for me to transport 4 long guns.
Overall it did okay, but there were a few issues that prevented giving it a full 5 star review.

I had the following items to pack and transport:
1. a .22 rifle
2. a .223 folding stock rifle
3. 30/30 lever rifle
4. 12 gauge pump w/removable barrel

Note: it was a tight fit but everything fit inside and nothing fell out during the 2-segment flights.

Caveats:
1. I had to remove a small section of the .223 folding stock and pack it into my other checked bag.
2. the 12 gauge had to be disassembled and packed as 2 pieces, side-by-side: receiver piece and barrel piece.
3. Chokes for shotgun were packed in my other checked bag.

Pros:
1. it accommodated 4 long guns, w/o scopes.
2. It is priced decently for what you get
3. the case survived my recent 2 segment flights intact.

Cons:
1. the 3 lock hole sections of this case have TWO DIFFERENT LOCK SIZE requirements!
Be sure and review the 3 holes that accept padlocks BEFORE you go out and buy your TSA locks.
I didn't and I bought a 4-pack of small TSA approved locks. I had to go back to local Walmart stores to find a larger TSA lock for each END of the case's LOCK HOLE.

I had to buy TWO different sizes/types of TSA approved locks in order to completely lock this case.

a. The MIDDLE lock hole will accept a small to large TSA lock. Small works best.
b. The two ENDS of the case have lock holes that require a regular, full sized lock in order to secure them.
I had to buy the TSA padlocks made with the flexible steel cable, in order to lock them securely.
c. Thank God my town had 3 walmarts, as I was scrambling for locks and ultimately bought locks at 2 of the 3 different walmart stores. I was at Walmarts at 2AM to 3AM, trying to locate the larger TSA locks I needed.

2. Considered an OVERSIZED BAG by airlines: be prepared to pay an extra fee with the airlines for traveling with this OVERSIZED case. My airline said the maximum case size for normal checked bags could be 62 inches (L + W + H)=62". Anything over that 62" would be accessed a $75 oversize fee. You can add up the dimensions and see that this case exceeds the 62 inch normal checked bag size.

3. foam came loose after first travel flights. Upon arrival I found the case was intact and suffered no apparent outside damage. Hinges were fine and so were the latches. But the foam inside had become dislodged from the top and was barely holding on for the bottom section. I can live with that, considering it carried 4 long guns weighing a total of approximately 36lbs. But it appeared that the foam was only glued in one, maybe two places!?
Glue is cheap so the vendor should have tacked the foam down in at least 6 places, IMHO.

In closing:
a. It helps to have gun socks to cover each long arm, if you are traveling with multiple long arms. They will move about in this case, unless you can somehow add extra foam or some sort of wrapping to the long arms.
b. Plan on buying 1 small TSA lock and 2 regular sized TSA locks, if traveling with this case on the airlines.
c. plan to pay an over-size baggage fee, if traveling with this case on the airlines.
