Clint's Review of Primary Arms SLx 4-14x44mm Rifle Scope, 30mm Tube, First Focal Plane (FFP)

I'm one of those people that usually goes by the rule "buy cheap, buy twice." I also read a few long-range shooting books that say you should spends as much on the scope as the cost of the rifle it's going on. I can tell you now, this scope proves both philosophies wrong.

As affordable as this scope is, it has a ton of features that you would find on scopes that cost 5 or even 10 times more. I was a little hesitant buying this scope at its price point (my previous 2 scopes were over $1,000 each) but I was very pleasantly surprised once I took it to the range and got it sighted in.

I put this scope on a new Remington 700 SPS AAC with a 20" barrel chambered in .308 Win mated with a Magpul Hunter stock. It only took 6 shots to get it zeroed in at 100 yards (a 3-shot group, adjusted windage and elevation, fired the next shot into the bullseye with 2 more to confirm). I then made a ballistics table for the ammo I had and was hitting a 10" gong at 500 yards and a 12" gong at 800 yards.

The glass is clear, the reticle is simple, the knobs are large, the parallax works great and everything holds true, even after 200 rounds in 2 days. My one and only gripe is the turret clicks aren't very crisp but that isn't a deal-breaker for me. I will probably get another one of these for my up-coming .308 semi-auto build.
Pros:
  • clear glass
  • Affordable
  • packed with features
  • simple reticle
  • illumianted reticle
  • 1/4 MOA clicks
Cons:
  • turret clicks aren't crisp
Best Used for:
  • hunting
  • Target shooting
