Kenneth Steen's Review of Primary Arms SLx 3x Prism Scope w/ ACSS 5.56 Reticle
First off I AM a fan of Primary Arms. I had high hopes for this optic. I have the 5x Prism and am quite happy with it. The 3x however falls way short in my opinion. The reticle is far far too small. I could only make out the details in certain light. Also when it was illuminated, it made it worse. Second issue is that the magnification and clarity did not even come close to my 3x30 ACOG. I understand that this is a significantly cheaper optic, however my goal was to try and replace an ACOG with it. After comparing the two side by side, the Primary Arms was so inferior that I just couldn't do it. All of that being said I think Primary Arms is a very good company and that they have many good products. This is not one that I would recommend for anyone, even on a budget. I get that not everyone can afford an ACOG, but I think a red dot with a 3x magnifier is better than this. I love the ACSS reticle, but you have to be able to see it in order to use it.
Pros:
- illuminated
- ACSS Reticle is one of the best on the market
- Scope body is a good design
- Excellent instructions
- Mount and scope caps come standard
Cons:
- Heavy
- Poor glass quality
- Reticle is ridiculously too small
- 3x Magnification was inferior to other products
