Tag's Review of Primary Arms The SLx 1x MicroPrism Red Dot Sight

There's a lot of reasons I like this, but the reticle isn't one of them. The Primary Arms marketing graphic of the chevron reticle is misleading. A large chevron is pictured, showing a 100-yard zero at the outside apex of the chevron, and a 200-yard hold over is supposed to be at the INSIDE apex of the chevron, On paper, it seems fantastic.

However, in reality the apex is SO SMALL that using the inside apex as a holdover isn't practical; you might as well have a red dot. It's simply too small to differentiate the outside apex from the inside apex. (Try printing a "V" in a 4 font, hold it a few inches away, and you'll see what I mean.)

That being said, this is a robust, compact optic with LOADS of mounting options. That's where it shines. This might be the most comprehensive riser & cantilever attachment system on the market. It's great for people with astigmatism who see fuzzy dots. The reticle can be focused to suit your eyes and the large circle surrounding the chevron is helpful for fast acquisition. There is a helpful range estimator beneath the BDC as well.

Should you buy it? Yes. But not for the chevron reticle. Buy it if you have astigmatism, if your want something light & small, if you need to use the multiple mounting options to bring it closer to your eye (Prism optics have less than 3-inches of eye relief).
Pros:
  • Range Estimator
  • Any mounting option you could possibly want.
  • small, snag-free and lightweight
  • Large circle surrounds the dot.
Cons:
  • Chevron reticle isn't practical
  • Misleading marketing
Best Used for:
  • People with astigmatism
