hawaiijames's Review of Pulsar Core Thermal Rifle Scope

I own a Pulsar trail XP50 thermal scope and love it. I want my buddies to predator hunt with me and the clip on system made a lot of sense since no zeroing is required and it uses your current mounted optic. I have an Armasight CO MR clip-on night vision device that works the same as this pulsar unit so I was familiar with how to use it. The Armasight NV died and it was $3,500 to replace the defective core, so for a little more money, thermal was the way to go.
The unit is very light and easy to use. The green tint is like night vision and easier on the eye than my Trail unit.
The menu is super easy to navigate and I think that at the sun $5,00 price point, Pulsar is the best thermal product out there and I have used most of them. It is super easy to use as a monocular and then convert it to a clip on in under a minute in the field.
The problems with the core are as follows:
1. the field of view is very narrow
2. the unit moves on the objective end of the scope unless you really crank it super tight and I am not willing to damage my scopes.
3. I was deer hunting and trying to see turkeys and squirrels between 50 and 100 yards and it was very hard to find them. I used my Trail XP50 and the squirrels were easy to pick out even at 130 yards.
4. The screen is like a 16:9 ratio tv and is wider than my 44 and 50mm scopes so you have an even narrower field of view than when it is used as a monocular.
Unfortunately it did not work for me and it has been returned. I will pick up another Trail unit for my buddies to use.
