I use a lot of different night vision equipment for feral hog control. I was attracted to this unit because of the day/night compatibility, and from what I had seen, it's capability at night. I must say, it is on par with gen 2 systems, as it is far better than any gen 1 system. However, it is not quite on par with gen 3+ systems (I own and use gen 3 with ITT pinnacle tubes). One thing that is note worthy is that the image quality itself is not as sharp as traditional night vision, particularly the 3+ systems. For example, I cannot read a license plate from 50 yards, whereas a 3+ you can very easily. That being said, this unit really shines in that you can take it out in broad daylight, sight it in, and then take it out at night and it performs equally well. Traditional night vision can be used during the day, but only with lens caps and other limiting setups. As the scene gets darker, the ccd camera starts putting out more and more noise, as one would expect. Like all night vision though, you have to have some ambient light. When that drops too low, even gen 3+ needs an active illuminator. The laser light on this unit is quite adequate, and works very well when ambient light is too low. The rail on the side of the light is nice, in that you could mount yet another illuminator for even more brightness, or an extended battery pack, or even a digital recording device that plugs into the outlet. All and all, for the price, a very good balance of performance, that will let you do some work at night that requires shooting.
Pros: price and day/night compatibility
Cons: image quality under some conditions
