San Porco's Review of Puma Knives Germany Waidblatt Fixed Blade Knife, 7.9in Blade, Stag
Besides the famous White Hunter, this is another iconic hunting knife that represents Puma Solingen.
It cost me a fortune, yet I'm delighted to have this German Beauty in my collection and I will treasure it for life. I also have Puma Rüdemann 40 with beautiful genuine stag scale handle, Tradition Knife with St. Hubertus' icon on pommel, White Hunter 240 with 440C steel blade and Puma cap in camouflage version!
So, you can tell by now that I'm a full-fledged Puma maniac.
Since no seller makes this knife available here in Japan, I've had mine shipped directly from a small knife shop in Frankfurt, Germany, and I received it just yesterday.
Holding in my hand, I've noticed that for its size this knife is EXTREMELY chunky and heavy! Its front-heavy blade design and obtuse blade edge make this knife an excellent hacker, and one full swing would be enough to kill wild game and quarter it at hunting site.
Though an excellent hacker and not slicer, mine has a decently sharp edge and it can slice an A4 sheet of paper with little or no effort.
A main characteristic of Waidblatt is its wide and thick (approx.8 mm) blade point. It was designed as a mercy killer by making a deeper and wider wound with one stab and help the quicker death of game with much faster loss of blood.
Waidblatt is also known as one of the 4 Hunting Side Arms developed by Puma Solingen (Hirschfänger, Rüdemann, Nimrod and Waidblatt).
Whether you are a hunter or knife collector, it is a beautiful German knife and though it is somewhat costly,
the delight you will reap is just priceless.
