Greg P.'s Review of Radical Firearms 10.5 in. 5.56 M4 Upper Assembly
I was building a budget AR pistol. I've built 16in ARs, but never an AR pistol. Built the pistol on an Anderson lower receiver. Because this build was based on a low budget, I located this lower assembly based on price comparison and features. The upper assembly came minus BCG and charging handle. I bought the M-Lok version for the availability of accessories for the M-Lok attachment system. The upper arrived well packed and dry, not slathered with oil. Good Thing! The barrel looked well machined, with no shavings in the barrel. Good Thing!. The M-lock free float was well attached with tight bolts and no wiggle. The upper mated to my Anderson lower with no problems, meaning that all the Mil-Spec tolerances were on-point. The only glitch I came across was breaking in the pivot pins. It took several pivot pin cycles for them to smooth out. This could have been an issue with the lower parts kit I bought.
Took the completed pistol to the range for zeroing with my red dot. I zeroed to a 10 yard zero for 50/200 yard shots. After a it was all done, the barrel was able to easily hit the target in three shot groups with all three holes touching at point of impact on the paper ranging target. By the end of the 50 round session, the pistol was noticeably smoother and more accurate than before the session.
In my opinion, this Radical Firearms 10.5in 5.56/.223 M4 in upper assembly is exceptional. If I were building another AR, I would not hesitate to use another Radical Firearms upper assembly.
