Sam's Review of Radical Firearms First-Gen Parallelogram Rail System (RPR)

I bought the 15 inch version of this rail on one of OpticsPlanet's killer deals for sixty bucks. I had been looking for a longer rail for awhile and was not quite ready to spend the big money that most rails seemed to be running. I saw this rail in an email from OpticsPlanet and I jumped on the opportunity. I figured that even if it was garbage that at least it was the right price.

When the rail showed up I looked it over to see what kind of quality I was working with. The packaging that it came in was more than adequate and protected the contents well. The finish on the rail was even and uniform but it was a shade darker black that the other components that I was working with. All of the parts were in the package and nothing was missing. The instructions were also included and they were clear and easy to understand.

The rail itself is now mounted and I like that it is fairly rigid and does not seem to flex much at all. The edges of the Mlok slots and picatinny rail sections are a bit aggressive and I will definitely be wearing gloves when shooting as I could see them ripping up your hands after shooting a bunch.

One bummer was that this rail does not come with a barrel nut wrench and my armorers tool from Wheeler did not have a section that fit the nut. I was able to rig something up to work with it, but it would have been so much nicer to either have a wrench included or have somewhere that says what size or type of wrench to buy before you go to install the rail. Also with this type of barrel nut, it is a pain in the butt to get it lined up exactly right so that the top rail sections are indexed properly. I worked at it for a long time and it still isn't perfect.

In the end I am confident it was worth the purchase and I will probably buy another one if it ever goes on sale again. If they were to include the barrel wrench in the future then I would give this 4 stars for sure. As it stands, it is a solid 3 stars and I would not hesitate to recommend it in the future for any budget builds.
Pros:
  • The price is right.
  • Seems solid and sturdy.
Cons:
  • No barrel nut wrench.
  • Hard to index the top rail sections.
Best Used for:
  • Budget builds.
  • Truck guns.
Would Recommend: Yes
