Nova Dad's Review of Red Rock Outdoor Gear Folding Shovel with Pick
Just bought two of these recently. I took one with me for a vacationing at a cabin by a river. I used it regularly for light digging tasks - mostly sand. I held up well and you can't tell I even used it after I wiped it off.
The good:
1. Light weight
2. Easy to use
3. Multiple features (I only used the shovel part, not the pick)
4. Handy size and good ergonomics - the blade bends forward, like a shovel blade should
The bad:
1. Light weight - Not sure how it would stand up to heavy use - e.g. using it to break up hard/frozen ground
2. Collar loosens with use
3. Saw teeth are blunt - not very useful as a saw.
Overall, I wanted something simple and handy. This did fit the bill. The collar did loosen up with use but I just paused regularly to cinch it down. Also, the saw teeth might work fine on small roots - I didn't need it for that. They could also be used for making notches. What they won't do is allow you to de-limb a long or cut through any tree limb of substance (e.g. 1" plus).
So, I'm happy with it. It certainly served my needs and I am happy with it.
