CallsignWulf's Review of Rival Arms RA40G001A Precision Striker Compatible With Glock 9/40 Gen 3/4 17-4

I got one of these from a local store. Installed in Brownells Glock slide. Ran fine for a while. After a while of carrying and dry firing, but not shooting cause of ammo costs and personal reasons, I got to shoot and get multiple failures to fire. Try another round and another. Dread hits me. Take the slide off, slide barrel to unlocked position, hit firing pin block and push striker forward. no protrusion. Get back to the staging point and take the thing apart. The front is completely flat. The (admittedly dumb looking, though I'm not engineer) flat blade style firing pin on Gen 3 Glock's had just sheered off on this "premium" Rival Arms model. Billet, precision, tight tolerances etc. Well my OEM Glock 34, Gen 5, has 10K+ live rounds through it, and enough dry fire to lose count, on ALL OEM parts, and still works perfectly. Granted the G5's have the rounded firing pin tip but I don't think Rival Arms is correct in their implication that OEM pins are problematic. Of course an OEM pin WILL have an issue at some point, it's mechanical. This one had an issue with less than 500 rounds, is past it's warranty date, and requires a receipt from who knows how long ago anyway. Junk.
Best part is I assumed, incorrectly, that the premium part wouldn't have issues so I neglected my duty to fully inspect my gun. No idea how long it had been in a completely unusable state.
Pros:
  • At least it looks cool. Probably lighter too.
Cons:
  • Not as premium as it's made out to be. Sample size of 1 broke with not a lot of stress.
Best Used for:
  • Wasting money and showing off.
