oldishguy's Review of Rothco Vintage Vietnam Fatigue Pant Rip-Stop

In comparison to uniforms I was issued in the 1970s (that I might have outgrown);
Cotton rip-stop vs. poplin rip stop, they seem to take longer to dry. The fit and quality are equal, the material is just a bit lighter in shade(already laundered, looks like the same fading that occurred with issued items, no additional shrinkage) and weight. you will find them a bit baggy, just like the originals.
"nylonish" cord is used instead of cotton, you may have to burn the ends, most of us cut the cords and used elastic bands to blouse them. Mine are in OD, the cammo ones look like the BDU 81 pattern vs. the ERDL upland I was issued, still thinking about it.
An unadvertised bonus is the 7th pocket inside the left bellows pocket. These were eliminated in the latter versions. I used mine for my wallet, you will find it suitable to carry a cellular device in it.
Pros:
  • confortable and broke in out of the box
Cons:
  • light weight - might not hold up to heavy use
Best Used for:
  • reenactment
  • anything in warm weather
