SoTXSlayer's Review of SB Tactical SBA3 Pistol Stabilizing Brace for Mil-Spec Extension Platforms
I have just installed the brace on the pistol tonight and have not had a chance to fire with it installed, but I am already incredibly happy I made the purchase. I didn't care for the brace that was shipped with the pistol; it was unadjustable, too short, and didn't offer the best shoulder weld. I saw a couple video reviews about the SBA3 brace, and they all called it the best, the pinnacle, etc. My pistol, an 8.5" .300 Blackout from Palmetto State Armory, arrived with an SB Tactical SOB. It was comfortable enough, but the lack of adjustment was the killer. When I saw the SBA3, I knew I had to have it.
If you're curious what kind of difference this will make on your gun, I measured the total OAL of the gun, which measured 25.75". I installed the SBA3 brace and buffer tube and measured both the extended and collapsed lengths. Collapsed, the OAL was exactly 2 feet/24 inches, and the extended length measured 26.75". That means that I got exactly one extra inch of LOP, and when stowed, the gun is 1.75" shorter. Not to mention, the SBA3 brace actually has an ambidextrous QD sling mount.
This kit uses and is supplied with a standard AR/M4 buffer tube with 6 available adjustment spots. So, you can get very close to full sized rifle LOP. I compared it with my Ruger AR556, and that LOP had about one extra inch, but it was due entirely to the rubber buttpad on the Hogue overmolded stock.
The SBA3 mounts extremely solidly to the rifle, and there is zero slop between the buffer tube and the receiver, nor is there any slop between the brace and the tube. One may not think that a single inch of length of pull might make a huge difference, but it does. It completely changes the feel of the pistol. Since it is nearly two inches shorter than before, it is much more easily concealable. A large backpack or a duffel bag should do well.
The shape and area and rigidity of the "buttplate" is actually great, and it would be difficult to distinguish it between and actual stock under stress. It just works very well. And, when it comes to home defense, my baby Blackout has just shrunk almost two inches, making transitions within the house and hallways much easier.
If you're thinking about purchasing this, go ahead. You will be very pleased.
