Spec215's Review of SB Tactical SBT Evo Pistol Stabilizing Brace

This will be a little lengthy to help manage the expectations of a prospective buyer. First, this will an awesome upgrade to your CZ Scorpion EVO 3. The third point of contact the brace provides increases both stability and control to get on target quickly (without sacrificing accuracy). If this is enough for you to purchase the item, stop reading and get yours now!!! However, if you want to know what you're getting, read on. I purchased the FDE. While this wasn't a "perfect" match, it will be good enough (unless you have an OCD with colors). The adapter closely matches the receiver, the rest of the brace is a different, lighter shade lighter of FDE. However, the EVO's receiver and FCG isn't a perfect match... most people won't notice it. There is a little bit of play (about 1/8") at the locking mechanism when the brace is locked and fully unfolded. (For comparison, the feel is similar to wiggling a seated 30-rd magazine left-to-right in a typical AR-style rifle, just a little less than that.) This wasn't enough to change my rating, but don't expect to feel it seat a tight as a upper- into a lower-receiver. In the fully-folded position, it feels rock solid. Although it doesn't lock in place, it folds flat against the receiver. Yet this features comes at a cost. The cheek-pad (it you want to call it that) is significantly narrower than it's SB siblings, making repeated "sporadic, incidental, or situational" contact with the shoulder potentially punishing to the upper chest area. However, the brace was the perfect length (for me) to achieve a proper cheek weld and sight picture as a third point of contact. Additionally, using the strap *almost* creates a pinch point for those with bigger than average forearms. (Thank goodness the strap's material stretches.) Many would be better served by better wrapping their arm to the outside of the brace than in the middle of it. Overall, I love this brace. It still allows the CZ Scorpion to fit into a backpack nicely without having to re-designate it as a SBR. This makes it easier to take it to a range, or simply use it as the proverbial truck gun.
Pros:
  • great looks
  • Increases portability of a tactical platform
  • Does not change EVO's handgun designation
  • Helps increase target acquisition
  • Helps increase accuracy
Cons:
  • Narrow cheek rest
  • Polymer portion not as pliable as other SB braces
Best Used for:
  • Home Defense
  • range practice
