I just received a new Outers Steady Pod, This rest is designed for shooting over long grass or when shooting in steep terrain.
The Steady Pod is something that I plan to use mainly in steep terrain for long cross gully shots and at other times when long grass etc gets in the way.
This rest can hook onto your belt for transport and is very light weight but still quite solid when fully extended. The version that I have extends from 17″ to 40″ so there is plenty of height and adjustment available. The rest is not permanently attached to the rifle. Once the Pod is set up you just sit the forend of the rifle into the cradle. A section is cut out so that you can grip the forend and hold the Pod in place. This also provides some amount of ability to adjust for elevation and cant of the rifle.
It can be used while sitting or kneeling. It is ideal for use while hunting Rabbits, Foxes or Hog deer in high bracken fern, providing a steady shot withput having to risk an off hand shot.
For deer and goat hunters, those cross gully shots in steep and uneven terrain will be much steadier. Just rest your back up against a tree and extend the Pod legs to the desired length. Place the rifle on the rest and away you go.
Pros: Ideal for steep hills
Cons: Can't lock onto forend
