A letdown, kind of - ShotLock AR 200M Solo-Vault

So, after reading hundreds of reviews I decided to pull the trigger on the AR Solo-Vault to stick in my closet. I was pretty excited for the safe to arrive! However, I was quickly letdown, and here is why:

1) The quality control - I'm assuming based on my one purchase - is quite terrible. Upon opening the packaging, I was greeted by shipping peanuts (HATE THOSE!!!), felt that was falling off of the metal and loose/random screws. Just seemed disheveled, especially for the price they charge. I also noticed that the door does not close smoothly. It takes an extra push for it to properly sit inside the locking mechanism. Upon review, it was all bent out of shape. Since the metal is quite flimsy - yes, really - I was able to bend it into shape. Problem solved.

2) The design, to put it quite frank, stinks. The notch that fits between the grip and the stock should be reversible so you can place the safe on either the right or left wall. With it's current design, it's only really usable on a right-hand side wall. If you think about it, as an efficient wall-mounted gun safe, you want to open the door away from you so you can easily pull the rifle out; you do not want to open the door in a manner where it's between you and the rifle. Simply making this one MAJOR design change would address this issue.

3) For fun, I put the rifle in the safe, locked it, took it outside, and surprisingly enough, was able to fire it. Why? Why isn't the trigger more isolated? Lame.

I don't mean to slam this product, but the facts are the facts. I'm not new to safes - I own everything from a Fort Knox to a Liberty to a Brown - but the fact that a company proudly markets this thing is mind-boggling. Whatever. Take it for what it is. I'd say keep your money and save up for a real safe. Good luck!
