Illanoyed's Review of SIG SAUER Grip Upgrade Kit, P226, E2

Purchased this as upgrade for my early 90's vintage West German made P226 9mm. Some of the grip screw inserts have stripped out of the frame, so I wanted to try an alternate solution to thread repair solutions such as Helicoils. I had read up on the E2 mod for older models and knew to purchase new style "L-shaped" trigger bar spring and the shorter new style mainsprings (hammer springs) for the shorter new style hammer strut included with this kit. I chose Wolf 19# (light) and 21# (stock weight) springs to try out for trigger feel.

All went together well - the grip was a challenge to coax into place at first, but it's quite rugged, so a bit of man handling caused no issues. The replacement decocker requires noticeably less pressure than my original - a nice bonus. The mainspring setup squeaked quite a bit at first, so I removed the grip and added a touch of lube where the strut enters the plastic retainer - noise problem solved. I didn't notice significant difference in trigger feel between the 19# and 21# springs, so stayed with the stronger stock weight version and have had no FTFs through several range visits and ~600 rounds of various maker 115 gr target loads. The grip is not noticeably different in girth from the original stock grips, but I notice improved gripping surface and slightly more secure and comfortable grip feel.

My only minor ongoing issue is that the grip does not fit completely flat against the frame on the upper right side near the trigger bar area. It's a very small gap - maybe <1/16", and it does flex flush to the frame when normal grip pressure is applied. I had tried 2 different grips and both exhibited this issue. In my opinion it's only an aesthetic issue, and one that no one else will probably ever notice.
