okonkwo jones's Review of Sig Sauer Romeo5XDR GEN II 5x24mm Combo Kit

So the optic’s screws used to clamp it to my rifles 1914 rail protrude out the left side—as does my guns G3/MP5 style charging handle. So I can not operate the bolt without tearing up my knuckles, and the safety notch/hold open is totally inaccessible.

Both optics construction was very sturdy and well machined— didn’t feel like anything short of driving a nail through the glass would cause more than wear off the finish.

Trying to look through the magnifier is very difficult, because of the small size of the optic there’s very little wiggle room when it comes to getting proper eye relief to peer through both optics. I’m not far off having to cram my eye straight into it like a microscope to get a sight picture—and it’s on the final rail block, as close as I could get it to my face.

The focus on the magnifier was also…slow to pull—not gritty—but you really can’t rack-focus with any kind of alacrity, and it moves so slowly It feels like it not even changing the focal length, it feels like your dialing MOA clicks instead of a control you might need to adjust more dynamically.

Also a small thing but: the red dot is dished in such a way that when you move the magnifier into position, they nest into each other. It’s a really pleasing design choice and some great attention to detail—if they’re “spooning” each other they’re all lined up and in co-witness. But you have to skip a modesty block on your rail or else you can’t put the lens covers on. I know they’re bikini covers, but let Romeo and Juliet get closer than that!
Pros:
  • bright
  • Sturdy , light , and compact
  • Reticule clarity
  • dot and circle option
Cons:
  • mount and mounting screw
  • Unforgiving eye box
  • awkward eye relief position
  • Focus ring is excessively hard to rotate
  • flip mount hard to operate because the optic is so short
Best Used for:
  • PCC 9mm PDW builds
  • smaller platforms where rail space is at a premium
