Truthsayer's Review of SIG SAUER Kilo1250 6x20mm Laser Range Finding Monocular

I bought the KILO 1250 for work, sport (golf, target shooting, archery).

I work with lasers, Microwave and MMW radios for communications systems. I rely on this unit and it has met all my expectations. When determining if a laser or Radio will operate for communications, distance is a huge part of the engineering parameters. I can get quick, accurate readings to determine Fade Margins, which enables me to provide the right solution to the Customer. Many of the devices I install will tell you the exact distance, once the system is up and running. They are exactly the same as what the Sig KILO shows. EXACTLY.

I have used mine since they first came out, in rain, heat, cold. I've not had even a hiccup. I used it to check the distance at a local range. The Sig said their 100 yard target was really at 99 yards. After closing, the Rangemaster & I pulled out construction type wheel I have and measured. The KILO was correct. It also is user selectable for Yards/Meters.

I know of one negative review where a user compared it to a $900 Swarovski, but I discount some of his complaints. The Swarovski doesn't account for angles, which the Sig does, if you want it to.

Since I work with lasers, I know they do not range properly through clear glass. This affects all laser measurement devices, including the Swarovski. It's the nature of lasers. If you are shooting at a transparent deer or elk, you have a bigger problem and should not have a weapon anyway, IMHO.

The dark gray/black display could be a problem against a dark background, though I've not had that problem when hunting, golfing, or at the range. Really low light, dark background, you haven't previously ranged the area?...OK, maybe it will be difficult to see. You should be good in most all legal shooting light applications.

When hunting from a blind, tree stand or any fixed position, I range the area around me when I first set up. I know the ranges to potential target before the target shows up, not afterwards. This negates the display color concern and lets me get on target faster.

Considering what you get for the price paid, this unit has exceeded my expectations. If you think spending $500 or more for a different color display and no angle compensation is worth it, go ahead. It wasn't for me. My unit has never let me down, is easy to use, and is accurate.
