Roger's Review of SIG SAUER Tango6 1-6x24mm Rifle Scope w/Illuminated Reticle, 30mm Tube

My on-duty patrol rifle LPVO quest is over. After comparing the Vortex PST Gen2 1-6, Vortex Razor Gen 2/E 1-6, Steiner P4xi1-4 and reading reviews and articles on countless other scopes I finally chose the Sig Tango6 Gen2 1-6x24.
#1. Excellent glass- Japanese Low Dispersion lenses to be specific. Second only to German glass. The most critical part of the scope...better glass means better: clarity, definition, light gathering, light transmission…better scope. However better glass is also heavier, which is the downside.
You can skimp on magnification but pay for better glass (Steiner P4xi 1-4 instead of Vortex PST Gen 2 1-6) and have better clarity at distances and still engage targets at 400 yards, plus.
The Tango6’s glass compared to a friend’s Razor Gen II (not E) was equal or at least didn’t have any noticeable difference that we could see. Edge to edge clarity, true 1x, good eye relief at high power. Tango6 was superior to another officer’s Vortex PST Gen II and made the range safety officer’s Strike Eagle look like it was filled with plastic lenses.
#2. Feature set- specific to the SOT61017 model…German style #4 reticle with Mil subtensions and a crisp daylight-bright .5 MOA red dot. NV settings not tested. Scope mag power ring has markings for 1 – 6 powers, SFP reticle so it stays the same size. Low profile capped turrets are on the 2nd generation Tango6 scopes…exposed tall turrets are on 1st gen so know what your getting before your order. Turret caps are well machined and good knurling for grip. Clicks on adjustments are audible and tactile. Very solid. Adjustable ocular diopter, on/off increments on the illumination rheostat, 30mm tube. This model shipped with battery (CR2032), throw lever and bikini-style lens caps. Overall hefty build quality. The @ 25 ounces are obvious when you mount it on. MOTAC is the motion-activated power that turns the illuminated reticle off after two minutes of inactivity and then turns back on when moved. (I initially thought this was a great feature but then realized the scope won’t know the difference between me picking up the rifle and me hitting a pothole while the rifle is in the rack.) I’ll be turning on/off manually.
#3. Reputability/Durability- Sig was awarded the optic’s contract to furnish Tango6 1-6’s for the USArmy’s Squad Designated Marksman Rifle. So…whatever the US Army can do to test a field of scopes and come away with a winner beats what I can do. That said, no US department of fill-in-the-blank is perfect and always makes the best choices.
#4. Value for the Dollar- Originally in the area of $1300 bucks…I got it on sale at Optics Planet for $699. No brainer. If you’d buy a Razor Gen whatever at that $1300 then I see no reason to pass up a Tango6 below $1000. It’s that good.
The biggest negative…weight. If you have an entry-style, room clearing AR then this probably isn’t for you. Not because of the 1x power, which is really good, but the weight. Stick with a red dot.
But if your rifle is a ‘tweener’ and you have the opportunity to engage targets from 0-400 yards…this scope has everything you could ask for and more if you find it on sale.
BTW…put this on a LaRue T204 CAN mount. Absolutely perfect match.
