Shannon Hirsch's Review of Sightmark Ezekiel 3-30x56 Rifle Scope

I noted in the specs that this was a compact scope with tons of adjustment range in both windage and elevation. That plus the 3 to 30 powder zoom range at a relatively low price got me interested. It turns out the specs were just plan wrong. This is a big scope and it has very limited windage and elevation adjustment ranges (probably because it does have a large zoom range). I bought this scope to go on a long range big game rifle and it really isn't all that good in that application. It has to be mounted rather high so the front bell doesn't hit the rifle barrel (not preferred for a good cheek weld). It is heavy. Also not good. The optics are not particularly clear either and it is a mil dot scope. I would much rather have an MOA scope to match my other scopes and my ballistics program. On top of all that the first one I got would not adjust to 30X but only to 27X where the adjustment ring stopped moving. I sent that scope back (and experienced very good service from Optics Planet to accomplish that.) The second one I got works fine. This scope does have three nice features. Parallax focuses down to 10 yards. It has exposed turrets that can be easily locked in place. The big zoom range is very useful.

It was pretty obvious that there are more suitable scopes for a big game rifle like the Vortex Viper PST (yeah, I know it costs almost twice the money). Compared to scopes like that, I just couldn't use this on a big game rifle so I wondered for a while what to do with this scope and I found a great application. I put it on a Weatherby 22LR which I bought years ago to simulate shooting a big game rifle. This heavy scope made it more like a real big game rifle and I can focus down to 10 yards at 30 power. That it turns out is very fun on a 22LR. So, for that application this is a pretty good scope - not so much for a real big game rifle.
