I was wanting a new red dot for my AR and I'm not rolling in money to where I could justify dropping hundreds on and EOTech or Aimpoint, so I saw this Sightmark and was interested. I was kind of undecided between this model and the, I guess its older model of the same sight that has the push button instead of a knob to turn it on. I decided to go with this model mostly because the battery last longer, is easier to find and is cheaper than the one required for the older model.
This sight is really wel constructed. It's made out of aluminum, is solid and attaches with a quick disconnect lever. To me, its the same as an EOtech, minus that ridiculous price. I personally cannot justify spending an extra $400 or so bucks to get an EOTech when this sight does every thing that I want. I'm not LE or military so this sight is perfect for my needs.
It has for reticles to choose from. I prefer the normal dot so I can't even tell you about the other reticles since I don't even care enough to try to out. The dot is nice and crisp. The sight has 3 brightness settings, as well as 2 NV brightness settings. The sight also perfectly co-witnesses with the iron sights.
I would totally recommend this sight for anyone that is in my same boat. If you have the extra money around and just feel the itch to spend it, or if you leave your sight on continuously and are worried about battery life, then totally get an Aimpoint of EOTech. If that doesn't concern you, I really can't see the need as to why you would want to drop those extra hundreds of bucks on a name when this sight does everything that the others do.
I am a recreational shooter that switched to this sight from a sucky NCStar red dot. So honestly, just about anything would have been better.
Hope this helps
Pros: stout construction, easy to use/attach/set-up, co-witnesses with iron sights, crisp dot
Cons: short battery life when compared to an EOTech or Aimpoint
