SSG Shredd's Review of Sightmark Wolfhound 6x44 Prismatic Weapon Sight

The wolfhound is a very nice .556 dedicated optic. If you’re looking for an system that has multiple options I definitely recommend this one. Here in Ohio we can only use .556 for hunting coyote and varmint. That kinda kills the fun of this optic for me, because it really is a great setup. It has a simple to use reticle setup that is designed specifically for 223/556 in 55 grain and 62 grain. It’s simply estimate distance, adjust to that distance for drop, and pull the trigger. Now the other cool thing about this system, and I say system for a reason, I opted for the one with a Mini-Shot mounted on top. I have had my Mini-Shot for about a year now. I have ran it on 4 separate platforms and absolutely love it. So to have one perched up top is just icing on the cake. Sometimes when hunting predators like coyotes or big cat, they get a little too close for comfort, this is where the Mini-Shot gives you that up close open view to stop ‘em dead in their tracks. This thing is a really nice multi purpose optic, it has clear glass, it’s easy to sight in, it also has a red and green illuminated reticle. It’s rugged design and simplistic setup is perfect for your weekend target shooter up to your pro-hunter. My only knock on this optic is simply that it is a little heavier than I expected it to be. But considering it’s designed rugged and for heavy use, I kinda like it that way.
Pros:
  • illumianted reticle
  • Rugged heavy duty design
  • mini shot on top
  • designed specifically for .223 55g and 62g bullets
Cons:
  • A little on the heavier side
Best Used for:
  • Hunting rifles chambered in 225/556
