Brad T's Review of Sightron SIII 10x42mm Binoculars

I have been looking for some new binoculars for a little while. I have some lower end Nikon 10x36 that I wanted to replace. It seems that all of the sporting goods stores near me carry Vortex binoculars, and for good reason. There isn't much selection of anything else. I had compared what was available locally and found some that I really liked. I ruled out the $1000 + models because I didn't want to spend that much for as much as I use binoculars. I had decided on the Vortex Viper 10x42. I took another look online and found these Sightron Siii 10x42 ED binoculars. There were no reviews as these were a new product. I have read many great reviews about Sightron optics especially their Siii rifle scopes. There wasn't a lot of information about these binoculars anywhere, including Sightron's web site. I rolled the dice and decided I could return them to Optics Planet if I was disappointed. I'm glad I took that chance.

These binoculars are made in Japan. They have a little more heft to them than I expected and they are very solidly built. The lens covers are the best on any binoculars that I've ever had. It isn't even fair to compare them to the binoculars they are replacing but the difference is obvious and immediate. These binoculars are very clear and bright. After taking them on a trip to the Oregon coast, I'm even happier that I chose these binoculars and will probably try some of the compact Sightron binoculars. I plan to use these for hunting and also for general use. I live in the west where distances can be very long and I have great confidence that these will do everything that I want them to do. I haven't been able to compare them side-by-side to the Vipers yet, but I don't think that I will be able to tell a difference. They are similar size and similar weight and in my opinion, similar quality. I like the locking diopter on the Viper and these are missing that feature. You can't beat a Vortex warranty but I'm pretty careful with my stuff. The money I saved and the quality that I got have me telling people about it and even writing a review. I am very pleased with this purchase and would buy them again. In fact I thought that I should buy my wife some in 8 power, but she talked me out of it. (The compact binoculars will have to do.)
