Damn good long distance rifle scope - Sightron SIII SS Long Range 10-50x60mm 30mm Tube Rifle Scope, Second Focal Plane

The official model name is Sightron SIIISS1050x60LRIRMOA. How is that for a mouthful?

I have to tell you that I am impressed. The view is bright and clear all the way to the edges with no distortion. The oversize target knobs have large characters (easier on old eyes) and tactical turrets (no caps and easy gripping). These can be reset to zero which I appreciate as I set my point blank range at 200 yards.

I got the model with the MOA illuminated reticle. I don't really think I need illuminated reticle but it is the only model that comes with the MOA reticle that I did want.

The only downsides to the scope are that it is 1/4 minute clicks and I thought it had 1/8 minute clicks. Also the MOA reticle has 1/2 minute marks and I would like to have 1/4 minute marks also. Both of those features would be advantages when aiming at 600 to 1000 yards.

At the last match I compared it to NightForce, and Zeiss scopes for clarity and light. It is easily as good as the NightForce 12-42x56 ($800 more) and marginally less clear than the Zeiss 6-24x56 ($1500 more) and had more magnification than both of those.

The magnification is almost more than can be used. As the day warmed up I found my self decreasing the magnification to minimize heat wave distortion. But the nice thing is that I can do that easily. For me this is as good a scope as there is on the market for long range shooting.
