F Class Shooter's Review of Sightron SVSS 10-50x60mm 34mm Tube Rifle Scope, Second Focal Plane (SFP)

I have had some really nice optics such as Steiner, Kahles, USO, IOR, Nightforce NXS and ATACRs. I currently have 4 Nightforce and one in particular has really great glass. Its a SFP NXS 5.5x22-56mm. So I got it out along side the SVSS. I set them first on 20X and started looking at various objects Tree leaves, bark, dirt, rocks mailboxes etc. Frankly I am shocked at how good the SVSS is. I am really picky about glass clarity and focus sharpness as a professional photographer. In a scope I am not super picky about color but contract I am and the SVSS is good here as well. The SVSS is right there with my very best NXS currently in my possession which means its way better than the Kahles 6-24 the USO 5-25, the Steiner 5-25. In fact I sold all them within a week because of poor glass compared to ATACR and NXS quality.

Even up to 30-40 and 50x power in good light the SVSS is very good. Of course the eye box gets small but the 60mm objective really helps pull in a lot of light. Another thing that is really nice is the dual wheel focus. It allows a super sharp focus that I love on a scope. I always thought the NXS was easily focused but the SVSS is better. In fact its a lot better.

The construction overall looks good and I like the size of the turrets. I got the 0.5mil turrets so they are only 5 mil per revolution but thats due to the small adjustment. The only negative on the turrets is that the clicks are a little mushy. Not bad, but not quite as positive as say an ATACR. Overall this is a VERY good scope and to my eyes the glass is basically identical to the best Nightforce I have which is plenty good enough for me. I have never owned a S&B or March but I have looked through them and I feel like the SVSS is at least in the neighborhood of a S&B but I will have to wait until I have one side by side.I will check the tracking and adjustments to see how it does but based on other posts I have read tracking is generally pretty good for Sightron

If you are considering one of these and a SFP scope in this size fits your needs then don't hesitate to buy it.
Pros:
  • Glass, side focus
Cons:
  • soft turrets
Best Used for:
  • Long range high Precision
