Beans's Review of Spikes Tactical M16 Bolt Carrier Group (BCG)

First off I should admit, I’m a Spikes Tactical fanboy.

Reasons: Quality and Support.

I’m very stoked to have purchased this Spikes Tactical BCG in a phosphate finish. I’m still very surprised by the cost vs the fit, finish and function. I own other brands that do great as expected for almost double the cost. I paid the same amount for an LMT bolt carrier (with staked on gas key and no bolt assembly for $125). The LMT has sharp edges and some tooling/ machining marks on 3 sides of the carrier. It runs great but a little off putting.
Unboxing the Spikes; the finish looked so smooth and consistent I thought it was a DLC coating. Once I removed the factory lube the phosphate finish didn’t blot and remained a matte velvet. The rounded edges stood out more without the shipping grease. All the sharp edges have been removed along with the cut out where the “Made in USA” is machined into the steel (the cut out and letters are also smooth and without rough edges). I’ll reiterate how “smooth” as I’m sure the dehorning process is equal to some high dollar pistol slides I own. It is impressive that this BCG sells for $126-$134 daily at OP.
The carrier is chrome lined as the description reads.,The gas key is chrome lined and staked-on properly to MILSPEC or better standards.
The bolt fit is perfect and the fit/ finish is consistent with the carrier. The bolt matches my other 2 -ST bolts in size and finish. (I own 2 other ST bolt assemblies and this is my 1st complete Spikes BCG.) Even the laser engravings are in the exact spot.
As the title reads, I’d pay more for this fit, finish and function.
The BCG ran its 1st 200 rounds without a hitch. So far only Frontier M193 -Hornady 55gr NATO 5.56 FMJ.
ST Upper, ST CHF mid-16” M249 m4 .750 barrel, Geissele gas block buffered with VLtor A5-2 assembly.
For some added visualization: The lower is a complete Sons of Liberty AP with a Badger Ordnance universal safety upgrade.

I’ve also had the opportunity to deal with the ST warranty department for a Upper Receiver issue. I trust that if I experience any issues at all that they will completely back their BCG as well.

Completely happy with my Spikes Tactical Phosphate BCG.

Super impressed by the QUALITY and AVAILABILITY of this Bolt Carrier Group .

In todays market: This “is” a $200 plus BCG. I will most likely purchase and pair with a ST CHF barrel again. I’d drop this into a high dollar MILSPEC build without hesitation.

This is what I envisioned when I read that the BCG is the heart of the AR15 platform.
