I have the original 12" rail and purchased the new model. I like the original one but I like the new one as well . The new model is easier to install. Also, it is slimmer and lighter. The mlok on the bottom gives better options for accessories, but i do miss the option for side rails . Both are great in their own ways. At least now i have one of each
