Danimal's Review of Stag Arms AR-15 A3 Stripped Upper Receiver
Listen up, fellow AR wranglers and freedom enthusiasts: I just read that one-star sob story from the guy claiming his Stag Arms A3 stripped upper wasn’t “properly machined” and was missing some critical charging handle latch recess, risking a “rack to the nose.” Buddy, did you get a Friday afternoon reject from the factory reject bin, or did your calipers need new batteries? Because I’ve bought three of these bad boys over the last couple years, and every single one has been a precision-machined masterpiece that drops together like it was born for my lowers. No drama llamas, just pure mil-spec vibes with a slick, cerakote finish that makes cheap no-name uppers look like they were carved with a rusty spoon.
First off, the machining on these is buttery smooth. Feed ramps are crisp and perfectly angled for flawless feeding (M4 style, baby). The upper sits flush on my lowers with zero wiggle or need for a BFH (that’s Big Friendly Hammer for the newbies). I dropped in BCGs, handguards, and optics without a single hiccup—everything aligned like the stars on the 4th of July. My first one went into a home defense build that’s seen hundreds of rounds of everything from cheap steel to premium hollow points. Zero malfunctions attributable to the upper. The second became my go-to range toy, and the third? Just finished a lightweight plinker setup that’s lighter than some crybaby’s beers.
Fit and finish? Chef’s kiss. That improved cerakote slick finish they talk about isn’t just marketing fluff—it’s durable, resists fingerprints like a pro, and looks factory-fresh even after range abuse. No burrs, no tool marks, no “oops, we forgot the recess” nonsense. If that poor fella’s upper was janky, he must’ve gotten the one that snuck past quality control while the inspector was on coffee break. Mine are all textbook perfect—tighter tolerances than my budget allows for anything else.
Value? Insane. You get Stag Arms quality (a name that actually means something in the AR world especially for lefties) at a price that won’t make your wallet file for divorce. I’ve recommended these to buddies building on a budget, and they’re all singing the same tune: “Dan, you weren’t kidding!”
Bottom line: If you’re on the fence, hop off and buy this upper. It’s reliable, well-machined, and ready to rock right out of the box. Five stars, two thumbs up, and a full mag salute. Stag Arms, keep doing what you’re doing—I’ll be back for #4 when the next build itch hits.
Pros: Perfect machining every time, slick finish, flawless fit, M4 ramps, great price
Cons: None. (Unless you count how addictive buying more becomes)
Would recommend? Yes, to everyone except that one guy with the nose-racking upper. Sorry, bro—maybe try a different batch?
Keep ’em oiled and the good times will roll!
