Joints can be tightened down on steel ball only so much, or so many times. The first (main) section is made of stamped steel, and should have been forged billet steel or cast alloy of some kind, so that it wouldn't bend as easily over time.
The joint tightening handles are made of plastic over standard hex nuts as well, so they strip out very easily... Again, a different material for these such as aluminum or magnesium alloy would have been better. Or, better yet, a quick-release style tightener like aquality bicycle seat tube quick release may have been better.
Pros: Steady mounting system.
Cons: Weak Ball Joints
