Difficult to focus at close range - Steiner Military Marine MM830 8x30 Porro Prism Binocular

I purchased these binoculars based on all the positive reviews on this site. They were the highest rated glasses for the price, which sounded really great. They had a nearly perfect five star rating. It was not until after I received the pair and read the literature that I realized that they had a special focus function. They claim that if you focus at 20 meters, or 67 feet that you will not have to focus any more until infinity, which is really nice if you are looking at things far away, as in a military or water situation. My experience is that the distance is closer to 80'. What is not said is that if you want to look at something closer than 67 to 80', that you will have to focus both eye pieces separately at the same time, which is difficult. It is very easy to go the wrong way in the process, slowing down what you are trying to look at. For birding, which is part of Natures grandeur as in the advertisement, they are not a winner at all.
