Dagger06's Review of Steiner S432 4x32mm P7TR Reticle Red Dot Sight

I purchased a Steiner S432 from Optics Planet on sale six months ago, and after taking it to the range and elsewhere several times, believe that I can offer an unreserved five star recommendation. I had three reservations about this optic before buying. First, it was too expensive ($1200 retail). Optics Planet solved that with a great sale price. Second, I'd not read/watched many reviews about it. But I've confidently used Steiner binoculars while deployed on active duty and their other products have great reputations. Third, the optic appeared clunky and heavy. It is that, compared to a smaller, non-magnified standard red dot. But the relative larger size and heft are insignificant when you factor in accuracy at longer ranges, versatility, ease of use and reliability--and its weight is comparable to the Trijicon ACOG. My S432 is mounted on a Sig MCX chambered in 5.56 and replaced a Sig Romeo 5 red dot (now on another firearm). The S432 was easy to mount, quick to zero at 100M on the range, and has held zero after being removed from the rifle several times. The reticle is simple and quick, the variable power red dot absolutely perfect for the fine reticle in pre-dawn to cloud cover to full sunlight conditions. It has a very wide field of view that is helpful at any range, especially close-in, and the best eye relief I've ever experienced with a "battle optic." The simple reticle, wide field of view and superior eye relief make this an intuitive, trustworthy optic. I dropped it once onto a concrete floor (and aged a year in three seconds flat) but the Steiner seems indestructible. If you're considering a prism optic, you can't go wrong with a Steiner S432.
Pros:
  • wide field of view
  • Intuitive, quick reticle
  • Great under nearly all light conditions
  • Outstanding eye relief
  • Quality construction, durable
Cons:
  • Expensive if not on sale
