klebrchelp's Review of Pelican Storm Cases iM3200 Long Rifle Case

Okay, so I read somewhere that Pelican acquired a competitor called Storm, hense the Pelican Storm. If this is true or not it's all fine and dandy either way. The point is, there are differences. This Pelican Storm case has pluses, and minuses.

I bought it originally because I wanted a proper length case for an HK 91. All the normal Pelican cases were either too long, or too short for me. This iM3200 was the length I felt was the perfect length.

When I unboxed it my first thought was of disappointment in the color. I got OD green, but the green is not as OD as I would have liked OD green to be. It's just too green for me, and maybe too smooth, or glossy a finish. I guess I'll have to beat it up a bit. It isn't that big a deal, I'm not going to exchange it, but there is disappointment still.

Upon opening the case I really liked the latches. Are they as stout as the normal Pelican case, not really, but they are a really nice design and work great. There are also two more of them as they are on the ends.

I open the case and notice flex. The shell apparently is not as thick as normal Pelican cases. When you open a normal Pelican, it is a thick hard piece with no flex. Opening this case, if you open holding the left side the right side will droop a bit. Is it stout enough? For me it is more than adequate. Closing it up, I could not get flex out of it even when I sat my fat butt on it. I feel it is not quite as solid, but solid enough, and the bonus is slightly less weight.

Another couple of things I notice, both handles swivel. This is nice to have as I'm not much of a fan of the rigid side handle on my other case. I also like the rubberized texture on the handles.

The biggest thing to me that I noticed in lugging my cases around. The wheels don't make it not stand. My normal Pelican has nice wheels, but it won't stand on that end. This Storm case has nice wheels, AND it can stand on it's end! There are plastic legs that make it level with the wheels. This is great when in line to not have to hold it all the time. Wheel along then stand, wheel along then stand. My normal Pelican has to either be laid down, or held the whole time.

I took a partial point for the color disappointment, and another partial point for the not as rigid. I hate to take a full star as I feel I'm being finicky. If this was a black case, the color deduction probably would not be a thing. So really, I wish I could go with a 4 3/4. It really is a great case.
