Spindrift634's Review of Streamlight Protac HPL USB With USB Cord

Some background. I am a full time police officer. My stream light stinger finally took a dump after 10 years so I was in the market for a new one and the HPL is what I settled on. The light it’s self works well and functions well. My complaints: 1 The sheath that comes with it is garbage. The Velcro gave up after two 12 hour shifts and now I worry that I’m going to loose my new light either chasing someone or going over a fence. I did fall down on the ice in the parking lot and that caused the light to fall out so what’s going to happen in something really strenuous. It leaves more of an AMETUREtac flavor in my mouth than PROtac. 2 due to the bezel diameter and tube diameter, good luck finding a quality holder that actually fits it and is worth a darn. Rapid access to a flashlight in my line of work is essential as well as being able to stow it quickly if I have to go hands on. 3 the USB charge function is a fantastic idea but it is so painfully slow I now just carry extra 18650 batteries with me in my patrol bag. My honest opinion, I wish I would have spent the extra $50 and bought a Surefire. The money I new have to spend on a holster would cost me at least a portion of it and I wouldn’t have this headache. Streamlight, if you are reading this, please offer a quality holster. One with rapid access, rapid stowing, and durability. Some of our lives actually do depend on your products and it still does. I have a TLR-1 on my duty weapon and I have no complaints. It has been through years of patrol use, had the glass shot out by a simulation gun, and seen about 40K rounds. I can’t recommend this light for police use until they fix the holster issue. For civilian light use I’m sure this light would be more than satisfactory.
Pros:
  • Durability
  • Interchangeable with CR123 and 18650
Cons:
  • Cheap holster
  • slow USB Charging
