Chris's Review of Streamlight Protac Rail Mount HL-X Laser
The product images have no scale reference in them, and it looks like a slick low-profile light. But it's not. It is bright and effective, but it's ENORMOUS for an AR weapon light. Almost 7" long and 1 3/8" diameter. It's as big as many hand-held flashlights. That makes this light grossly impractical for a tactical weapon, especially an AR pistol or something compact. I wouldn't even put it on an 18" AR for that matter. It's easily 30-40% larger than a Surefire M600DF. It's only slightly smaller than a paper towel roll. Being as enormous as it is, if your handguard is an M-LOK, mounting it with any kind of offset or M-LOK picatinny rail attachment makes it even MORE unwieldy. If you must do it, the best low-profile offset mount option I found was the Trijicon AC32066 (expensive), but almost all other mounts would push this light much further or higher than that. The included remote switch is a very nice accessory, but this light is probably best used on a shotgun or something along those lines where the light/laser combo would be most advantageous on a single upper or lower pica rail. I'd give it four stars if it was called a "Shotgun Light/Laser" because it certainly qualifies for that, but it I give it two stars because I was fooled into buying it as an AR light. I really wish the description text warned me about its size.
