Brian N.'s Review of Streamlight TLR-2G LED Rail-Mounted Tactical Light

I struggled for a while going back and forth between the TLR-2G and TLR-2G-HL. The price difference isn't a lot. So why not spend 10-20 dollars more for almost twice as much light output. The truth is, they each have their purpose. Imagine being awoken in the dead of the night, half a sleep, the 2G-HL would be WAY too bright and will instantly make you blind for a few seconds until your eyes could adjust to it, completely defeat the purpose. The 2G-HL would be suited much better to be used outdoor hunting at night. For indoor home defense, the 2G is bright enough as it is. I cannot imagine anything brighter would do you any good.

Build quality is EXCELLENT. The mounting mechanism is ingenious. Once tighten down, it's not going anywhere. The battery door mechanism is awkward, but serves the purpose. I mounted the light on my Sig P226 MK25 (which has the true picatinny rail) and found that the laser was straight as an arrow out of the box. I opted not to use the picatinny key as it put the light sticking way out in front of the muzzle. Streamlight warned not using the correct key can cause the light to work itself loose under normal usage. However, after studying the mechanism, all the key does is to prevent the light from going in further toward the trigger. And thus, mounting the light without the key allowing the unit to be much closer to the trigger, not sticking out as much and much easier to reach the control.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with the Streamlight TLR-2G. From quality to function, everything is top notch. I was comprehensive at the cost for a long time. Luckily, Opticsplanet.com had a sale and it helped soften the blow quite a bit. Shipment was very fast, complete with tracking number. I'm a very satisfied customer and will look at Opticsplanet for my future purchases.
