James Young's Review of Strike Industries G5 Mass Driver Compensator
I ordered this item for my modified Glock 17 Generation 3 with the Franklin Armory Binary system (Slide and trigger). I made the mistake of ordering the wrong version, I ordered the version for Generation 5, it was my mistake not the vendor Optics Planet I ordered it from. In its present configuration with the including guide rod, it would not work, as the Gen 5 Glocks are different than the Gen 3 Glocks. After reviewing the package that included:
a. 1 Comp Main Body
b. 1 Recoil Spring
c. 1 Guide Rod
d. 1 Guide Rod Fitment Washer
e. 1 Internal Spring
I found that to make this work on my Glock 17 Gen 3 was to replace only the guide rod, which I ordered from Strike Industries. Once received the only parts needed were parts a, b, and e, I did not need parts d and c. Remember I have a slide from Franklin Armory, and the recoil spring fits perfectly without any issues. After assembling and adding blue Loctite, allowing it to cure, then functioned checked. Took it to the range test fired in semi-automatic mode, no hiccups, that many stated concerning lite primer strikes. Then switched to binary mode, ran like a champ.
One other thing that I need to mention is that the frame is a stock Glock not a P80 or Glock clone. Note about P80’s if they are not milled properly and the slide is not broken in, the slide will have issues returning into battery, also not using the correct recoil spring and guide rod, the spring weight is a factor that allows the slide to move backwards after firing and has the ability to push the slide back into battery. Each Glock Spring by caliber has an assigned weight, wrong weight will lead to light primer strikes and the firearm not going into battery. I can say this about P80’s as I built one prior to the gun haters banning them for purchase without going through an FFL. Building any firearm takes patience, along with testing to break it in properly, plus with the wrong tools you can destroy the frame, or brick it as many have done. Always verify the firearm any part you order fits that specific firearm, if it does not work indicates one did not read the instructions shipped with it or when ordered didn’t see the recommendations from the vendor or manufacturer. Reading is fundamental and bypassing information indicates lack of patients, something required with any and every item we purchase.
Final note I did not have to return the item, as the only difference was the size of the guide rod base, everything else fit.
