Bradman's Review of Sun Optics Air Tac Rimfire Rifle Scope 3-9x50, Micro Mil Dot Reticle
SUN OPTICS
This is a summary review of my experience with the Sun Optics company and their products. I had recently purchased an adult air rifle combo package with a scope and immediately found that the scope would not hold zero. I sent the scope back twice before deciding to buy a new scope. So, the search began. I had never had a nice air rifle or a nice scope for one. The internet was full of opinions and a blitzkrieg of marketing techniques filled with big names. It reminded me of my search for the air gun. The air gun purchase had left me with a bitter taste in my mouth as the product I purchased was not what it had been promoted by certain popular folks. I had spent countless hours, money and work to get it to the awesome shooter that it is now. I now have a Gamo, Whisper Fusion Pro .177, with a CDT trigger, a James Macarri Spring and a back yard tune job. It is a very good shooting rifle.
Anyway, here goes the scope search. After several months I had gotten my search down to several models and manufacturers of scopes. Oddly enough, some of the top scopes were not rated for air guns. I had to take them out for that reason alone. My air gun had significant recoil and I could see that my aftermarket scope mount was holding tight on the receiver, but that the bolt going into the receiver was marking the hole. This clearly told me that without the bolt the one piece mount would be moving and in my face. That’s a lot of pressure on the scope with every shot. At the last minute a friend, that I had lots of faith in told me about a relatively new scope company called Sun Optics. They had a new line of scopes just for air guns called Air-A-Tac that would do a great job for me. I told him that I was probably going with XYZ and he said to try Sun Optics.
The next day I found one, a 3-9x50 (CS87 3-9x50IR TRUTAC GER/MIL-DOT/LT/SUNSHDE/BLACK) they were out of stock at Opticsplanet.com but available at several other outlets on the internet for around $135. This was the smallest one that they had available. I backordered one at Opticsplanet and had it in five days.
When it came in I was pleasantly surprised. You see, I was putting this gun together for my fifteen year old son. He has plenty of guns, but had always wanted a really good pellet gun and this was going to be the one. Unfortunately, I was going to have to let him have this one with this scope. The mildot, 1” tube, three color, red, green and blue reticle was an absolute beauty.
I put the scope on the rifle, mounted it properly, sighted it in and could not believe the quality that was built into this scope. Clear glass, absolutely dead on accuracy, incredible a fly doesn’t stand a chance at twenty five yards on the target (lol). This was a well thought out scope, built by shooters, no doubt.
So, now I sit beside of the air rifle and watch my son shoot it and enjoy it from that perspective. Once he saw me painting the stock, he asked me if it was ready. This was several weeks after I had been shooting it out of my shop, secretly. J
I am not an employee of Sun Optics, nor am I affiliated with their company or any other scope or air gun company. I am retired, but I think that when we get older a great optic is very important and Sun Optics has the area covered with their Air-A-Tac line of quality scopes. As a hunter all of my life, I’ve used all kinds of optics and have seen them evolve into what we have available today. I am also a retired law enforcement officer and have used many different optics in that capacity and again have seen them evolve from junk into what are standard today. Sun Optics has a line of products sure to fill the gap that I was looking for during my search for a good, solid, clear, etched scope that would be reliable and hold zero. Just my .02.
Sun Optics hit a home run with this scope!!
Note: I had to use the word bolt instead of the word scr@w for some reason. Hope that you got my meaning.
Thank you very much,
Brad
