Richard P's Review of SureFire M340V Mini Scout Light Pro Compact LED Weapon Light

Why Is No One Talking About This?

As many reviewers have already noted, the build quality of this flashlight is exceptional—rock solid and second to none. This level of craftsmanship is precisely what customers expect when purchasing a Surefire product, and we willingly pay a premium for that standard of excellence.

However, I’m baffled that no one is addressing a critical issue with the IR light. This is the second genuine Surefire flashlight I’ve purchased, and both have the exact same flaw: the IR illuminator is visible to the naked eye. This completely undermines the purpose of using IR light, which is supposed to be invisible.

Both of my Surefire flashlights emit a faint red glow that can be seen without any special equipment. This is not just a minor inconvenience—it’s a serious drawback that compromises the user’s position. Is this acceptable to the US military, or do they receive a special “MIL” version that truly delivers invisible IR light? After paying the $450+ “Surefire premium,” I expected nothing less than perfection, including a properly invisible IR light. Shockingly, my $70 Streamlight Sidewinder flashlight achieves this, so why can’t Surefire deliver the same performance at over six times the price?

For anyone considering this product, it’s fantastic if you don’t mind the visible red glow. But if that’s a concern, you’d be better off saving $100 and opting for the white-light-only version instead.

This could have been a five-star product, but the IR visibility issue is a dealbreaker for me. I hope Surefire takes this feedback seriously.
