tanner's Review of SureFire P2X Fury LED Flashlight w/ Intellibeam, 15-600 Lumens

My 4th Surefire flashlight. I've only had it a few weeks, but here are my early impressions.
Pros:
Build quality. Typical Surefire - solid, durable, exemplary finish and backed with a lifetime warranty
Super bright! I have a 350 lumen Surefire light in my car. The Fury puts it to shame. Advertised at 600 lumens and seems to be just that. So bright that it would make a person or a dog look away. Exactly what I want!
Size. Fits in my pocket, but it is a bit longer than my other 2 x 123A battery Surefire lights.
Intellibeam. When you turn it on in a dark room the light isn't so bright that you lose your adapted night vision. Especially if the beam is reflecting off a solid surface such as a wall or floor. Brightness increases when you point it a surface that is farther away, of just shine it down the block ahead when walking the dog.
Typical Surefire Lamp. No dark spots in the center. I expected that. What I didn't expect was how far the beam holds together. It is the first light I've owned that could really be called a searchlight.
Cons:
Intellibeam is designed to throw the maximum light without blinding the operator. There is also a 2nd tailclick option to operate in maximum mode regardless. But, it lacks the ability to force a low output mode. There are other PX2 Fury models that allow for high and low output levels. This light would be perfect if it had a third tailclick option to force the light to operate in 10 or 15 lumen output mode. This would allow extended battery life, and would make it possible to carry a light that was completely versatile for any need. I need that low light option and this light is often too bright for my application.
Conclusion:
I'm giving this light to my daughter to carry when she walks to her car from classes at night. She'll be able to light up an entire block before walking down the street, and it will blind an attacker for a moment, giving her an unexpected advantage. Intellibeam means she won't have to think about how to operate the light. Perfect for her. But I need a light that operates in both low level mode and high level mode. I'll buy the less expensive P2X Fury 500 Lumen Flashlight - Dual Output Tactical Light P2X-B-BK for me.
