Dan's Review of SureFire Replacement Rear Cap Assembly With Tape Switch
First to clarify, this item is indeed the rear cap assembly and the UE-SR07 tape switch. I bought this to use in conjuction with my new Surefire M600DF ,great weapon light by the way, maybe the best unless you want to spend even more on a Modlight, but this was enough for me. I've had and used and still use Streamlights, Inforce, Surefire, Olights and the weak point on these lights is typically the pressure pad or durability. So i decided id pay the $120 for the Surefire UE-SR07, due to Surefires reputation and most saying these are the gold standard for a weapon light/pressure pad combo. I've now had two of these, I returned one immediately and now stuck with this one. The problem; both of the switches when activated drop the power of the light significantly and the constant on button, the only reason to pay extra for this, doesn't work. The constant on, when you depress the button will only work about 1/3rd of the time and if it does work the actual light output and flickering is equivalent to a bic lighter . That was both of the switches. And this was a $125? Of course I reached out to surefire, its been 2 week and counting as of this post, and never got a response, not even a "thanks for your questions, we at Surefire really care about our"..blah , blah. So there goes the much vaunted reputation of surefire. For a weapon mounted light with a pressure pad I'd recomend the Streamlight Pro HL-X, it has its issues buts its half the price of this set up and actually works when i want it too. Huge disappointment here with this product.
Pros:
- Well, the black matches the black on my rifle, so..guess that is a pro
- Optics Planet actually shipped this thing to me in a week!
- too short to hang yourself with
Cons:
- Unreliable brightness
- Surefire's lack of customer support
- the cost! lord almighty the cost of this thing
- inconsistent switch
- too short to hang yourself with
Best Used for:
- making yourself angry at wasting money
- bread tie for those really fluffy buns you like
- scarring your kids as you do tactical rolls in your underpants while trying to blind them with all the lumens..and it just emits a dull nightlight like glow
