Chris K's Review of Belleville MiniMil Minimalist Training Boot - Men's

I've been wearing Tactical Research's Belleville MiniMil boots daily for about 6-7 years now and absolutely love them. I wear them hiking, to work, to the store, international travel, everywhere - I've thrown out most of my other shoes with the exception of a few pairs of Five Fingers. I've even worn these boots during 2+ mile runs while trying to catch my train after work - my feet felt great! Prior to purchasing minimalist shoes I always had mean shin splints, but never with these boots. These are super comfortable and lightweight, plus they are really durable. The soles after 6-7 years, and easily a few hundred miles (if not thousands), are still going strong with enough tread for hiking. However, quick disclaimer, I did buy two of the black pairs, one coyote, and two green pairs and cycle them out each day which has given them each long life. One thing I will mention is that you do need to break these boots in when you buy them. I'd recommend wearing two pairs of socks for the first 7-10 miles of use, after that you should be okay with only a single pair of socks. When brand new, there are some scratchy parts in around the heel and ankle which could give you nasty blisters. However once they are broken in, you will absolutely love these and have no further problems. If you need the black pair for work like I do, you'll be glad to know that even after 6+ years they still shine up really nice. Shoe laces are strong, I've never needed to replace them. Seams are durable and soles have never separated from the leather/canvas.
Pros:
  • Durable, lightweight, comfortable
Cons:
  • Break in period
Best Used for:
  • Hiking, traveling, outdoor work, running, daily use
