Marty's Review of Tactical Solutions Extended Mag Release

Let's admit it, Ruger created one of the world's best guns, but woke up on the wrong side of the bed when he went to design the magazine release for the 1022. Tactical Solutions has created a MUST HAVE upgrade for every 1022 owner. Installation is so simple, anyone with access to YouTube can look it up and get it done in less than 5 minutes. No gunsmith required. Installation only involves removing 1 pin and swapping the parts. The old magazine release required a two fingered digging technique for most newbees. After a while, a proficient shooter can use one finger to press the release and allow the mag drop free. But you have to remember which way the flipper moves to drop the magazine and if you are doing this one handed, the empty mag is usually falling to the dirt. The Tactical Solutions mag release allows for the shooter to use the pinky finger of the trigger hand to flip a lever and drop the empty mag. The lever conforms nicely to the trigger guard and gives excellent leverage, it takes just a few ounces of effort to drop the mag. And by practicing dragging your pinky between the trigger guard and the mag release lever while moving your hand forward, empty mags drop right into your hand in one sweeping motion.

Again, this is the best mechanical improvement for the 1022 to come along since they started putting heavy match barrels on the guns.
Pros:
  • Very fast mag changes when varmint hunting or shooting in a match.
Cons:
  • The lever is very sensitive and you will need to practice not touching it or you will drop your mag early.
Best Used for:
  • Varmint hunting, teaching, and speed shooting matches.
