RT's Review of Thompson Center Predator 3-12x40mm Rifle Scope
I bought a Ruger American Predator chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor that had this scope mounted as a package. First trip to the range with it was a success as I was able to zero the scope in about 4 shots after a quick down the barrel bore site at 50 yards. I backed up to 100 yards and ran about 50 rounds through it of various manufacture and weight. The scope holds zero well and adjusts as expected. At 100 yards I made a few minor adjustments for windage and elevation and was able to shoot several sub MOA groups. In my opinion, the reason for not getting consistent sub MOA groups is the reticle is not fine enough to see the 1/2" dot on the target at 100 yards. It nearly completely covers it, with only the arcs of the dot circle peeking out around the 4 quadrants of the cross hairs. The glass is reasonably clear. The turret caps are nice with o-ring seals. The scope adjusts 1/4" at 100 yards and was crisp and reliable for the anticipated moves made. I have seen this scope mounted on shotguns for turkey hunting and I believe it would do well for slugs also.
Pros:
- Crisp 1/4 inch MOA adjustments
- nice camo coating
- Reasonably clear glass for the price
- Camo matched coated rings included.
Cons:
- Reticle is a bit coarse for precision shots at 100 yards.
Best Used for:
- Any short range shooting that does not require prescision placement.
