Trijicon mro for home-defense rifle - Trijicon MRO 1x25 mm 2 MOA Reticle Red Dot Sight

I recently completed a 16" Mid-Length AR-15 build that only lacked an optic. I also have another 16" AR-15 that is equipped with an Aimpoint Micro T2. While I am pleased with the Micro, it still doesn't feel like it should cost as much as it does (optic + mount). I am familiar with Trijicon quality after having previously owned an ACOG, and currently multiple sets of HD Sights on my handguns. I happened to notice this optic on sale and decided to give it a try.

In my opinion, it is better than the Micro for Novice/Intermediate shooters. Expert shooters will either appreciate this optic for what it is, or complain about the "dot" not being perfectly round. The large front lens makes the optic feel larger than it is. You can use a quarter to open the battery cover. The only tool that is needed for zeroing is a flat-head screwdriver. There are no caps to cover the adjustment screws to misplace. Even the optic case is high quality.

My rifle initially had a front sight base, so I ordered this optic with a 1/3 Co-witness mount. The mount is solid, but base screws are required to be completely loosened to remove the optic/mount. The lower 1/3 mount does work great with a front sight base and a flip rear sight. I have recently added a 15" rail and a Troy Ind. flip front sight. The sight picture is crisp which I have to credit to the glass quality and reflective coating on the lenses.

If you want a quality optic that you can trust, for under $500, don't hesitate to buy the MRO. I prefer it over the Micro T-2 performance-wise, and it's $2-300 less. I will buy another MRO in the near future. The only negative, is that currently there are not many QD mounts available. There are currently several QD mounts available, and more to surface soon.
