Josh's Review of Trijicon AccuPoint TR-24 1-4x24mm Rifle Scope, 30mm Tube, Second Focal Plane (SFP)
I think for any review to be relevant you must first have context on the intended purpose I had in selecting the Trijicon Accupoint 1-4x and how it has held up to my expectations thus far. As someone who has spent most of their military career behind Eotechs, ACOGs, Aimpoint Micros or the Elcan I found that my home rifles were set up quite the same as my work rifles as it was simply what I was used to. As I started competing in local 3 gun competitions I quickly learned the value of a LVPO. Most of my friends and colleagues were using the Vortex Razor so I ventured down the same path and picked one up for my primary comp gun. It’s an excellent optic, I love almost everything about it but for a different rifle build I was working on I wanted something that could meet the criteria of being much lighter than my razor, a more pronounced reticle for up close work but could still give good magnification for shots out to 300ish yards. I did a ton of research and hands on tests and finally narrowed it down to two optics, the Steiner PX4I and the Accupoint 1-4. While I feel that the Steiner is a great optic it was in effect, a mini version of the razor more or less so I decided on the Accupoint with the red triangle reticle. Prior to mounting the accupoint to this particular rifle I was using an Eotech with G33 magnifier. My biggest gripe with the magnifiers is the terrible eye relief and the combined weight of over 22 ozs. I can say that the Accupoint did not disappoint in any category. The weight with Aero Precision Mount is about 18ozs. The glass quality is very good, not Razor or Kahles good but very respectable. Many people say that as you zoom in from one power to 4 it takes some adjusting of the cheek weld but if you have the eye relief set up correctly for you I found it to be a non issue and I did not need to adjust whatsoever. The simple triangle reticle is quite effective to my surprise, I love that there is no electronics in it that can make the reticle “starburst” or bloom. The triangle is very clearly defined in all weather conditions. The tip of of the triangle is very handy for precision work while the triangle reticle as a whole is great for fast work up close. I found myself flying through targets at reflex sight speed. With a 50 yard zero I could easily slap steel using the reticle without adjusting out to about 300 yards. Out further than 300 I wouldn’t count on it much without doping the dials, the triangle is just too big for an effective holdover and you lose the ability to use the tip of it as a precise point. Durability and longevity remain to be seen but I trust Trijicons reputation should something go south. For me this was exactly what I was looking for, something in between a red dot and a good 1-6 LVPO. It’s lightweight, has great glass, a user friendly reticle, requires no batteries and is backed by a trusted name. Though 1-4 optics are a bit forgotten with the huge stable of quality 1-6s/1-8s this makes a great choice for someone looking for the features I found myself looking for.
Pros:
Weight, reticle, durability, price.
Cons:
None
Best Used for:
Sport/Tactical/Hunting
