JPD's Review of Trijicon 45ACP FNH HD Three-Dot Green Tritium Night Sights

My eyes are not what they used to be but I always enjoyed shooting my FHN 45. However, I found my self shooting my glocks and 1911's with night sights more and more. I figured out the reason is not because of the trigger or the recoil because IMO the FN beats all my glocks and some of my 1911's in trigger and recoil but it was because the stock sights. I practice in low light scenarios as i figure this would be the most like a home defense situation. the lack of night sights kept me from practicing with what was one of the best home defense weapons I have. When I saw a sale for the Trijicons i jumped on the deal. They arrived as expected in pristine condition and bright. Super easy self install with a brass punch, hammer and calipers to check for center. It is a job most people could do on their own. If you are a perfectionist or not handy with tools, send to a gunsmith to avoid marring up slide finish and ensuring proper installation.

**Note to self installers, the rear sight retains a spring so keep an eye out for it when removing rear sight!!!!

After taking to the range I am very pleased with the fit, finish and precision. I seem to be shooting about 1'inch lower groups now and will have to adjust technique to make sure it is not related to the sights. I like the day glow neon on front sight during the day and they have the consistent bright tubes for night that trijicon is known for. This set has a larger notch in the rear site that I like. It allows me to see to the sides of the front post giving me a better site picture. 4 start is because I suspect elevation is off from true dead center but may just be me. I will continue to adjust technique to see if I cant brink up the impact to center.
Pros:
  • low drag
  • quick sight aquisistion
  • bright markings day and night
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Home Defense
  • low light / no light scenario
  • self defense, target shooting
