Bimerok's Review of Trinity Nevada Ground Breaker Complete Slide

I was super exited to get this slide (in G34 version) and ordered it for myself as a Christmas gift. Upon arrival, I was so exited that I took it immediately to the range without even checking it out much beforehand. Right from the beginning I has terrible feed issues with almost every round, where bullet hits the top of the chamber and gets stuck. It gets stuck in such a way where you can’t even help it through by bumping the slide on the back to have it load, it just stays there crooked. You have to take out the magazine, rock the slide back and shake the bullet out. The slide comes with few recoil springs, so I try switch to different springs that are provided and I have few different types and brands of ammo, give it a try and it gets a little better, but the problem just keeps presenting itself where 2 to 3 rounds out of 5 get that feeding issue.

Just as a reference, I use good brands of factory ammo and none of the ammo I use give any issues in any of my guns and I have about 20,000 rounds just through my Glock that I used for target and some comp shooting.

Next I’m trying to figure out how this thing shoots (when it's not jamming) and I’m disappointed – Not only it does not provide much of a recoil difference, but it also shoots way too low even for the type of sites it has. After getting about 100-150 rounds through it. I pack up and go home to clean and inspect everything.

Upon arriving home and disassembling everything to clean I notice something sticking inside the barrel about quarter way to the end. I try to use my plastic pick and to my horror, I realize that this something is metal and what looks like a welding drop! A metal obstacle right inside the barrel! As if that was not enough, continuing my further inspection the disappointments were kept coming. The way they attach the end muzzle break is by grinding down circumference of the barrel at the end where it is just a thin piece of metal, sliding the muzzle break over it and welding it around. The place where they weld is then ground down to make it look better, but you still see the uneven welding with dips and pin holes. Also when you look inside the barrel from the muzzle break side, you can see the thin, ground down barrel within it. Machining on the slide itself is about 3 out of 5, where few areas have sharp splinters left by machining and if you file them down, now your coating will be gone.

Being very disappointed, I still wanted to give it a try and contacted the OpticsPlanet for a replacement due to piece of metal/welding obstructing inside of the barrel. The rep told me that since it was already shot, I would need to contact the manufacturer for the warranty exchange. Fair enough. I call the number that I was given and the first thing is you get let down by, is no one is answering the phone and the voice mail says it is full and cannot leave a message. That already tells you a lot about the company! After several attempts at different times at different days, I'm finally able to get through and talk to the Owner of the company. Apparently he is the one answering the phones and everything else. After explaining what happened and sending him the image of the obstruction of the barrel I was told that I will be getting an email with return label for the exchange within few minutes. I was relieved and thinking OK, at least I can quickly exchange the thing and all will be good. But obviously no! Day later I follow up with text message to see if he can email that label since I did not get anything. In return I hear bunch of excuse that he was busy and his assistant will email me in few min. Fast forward few more days and now I get excuse that their email server is acting up and they can’t email me the label then more and more excuses and then finally just go silent and not responding at all to either calls, text messages or emails. Meanwhile I have a $1500 paperweight on my heads.

After waiting for over 2 weeks for just the return label and not getting anywhere, I contact OpticsPlanet and explain the situation again, what happened and that I try to reach the manufacturer for return shipping label and in over 2 weeks I can’t get anywhere and they stopped responding. At that point OpticsPlanet said that they will step up and issue me a return label and refund my money instead of the manufacturer. OpticsPlanet stood up for the issue and provided excellent support, for which I am very grateful!

Bottom line - I sent this junk back and will never recommend Trinity Nevada to anyone as they are joke!
